Professor Gloria Chukwudebe is the current Dean of the School of Computing and Information Technology. She is a Professor of Electronic and Computer Engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO). She holds a B.Eng (Hons) and M.Eng degrees in Electronic Engineering from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a PhD in the same field from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK.
Gloria has served the University as Head of Department, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, 1999–2005; Director of Computer Centre, 2010– 2011, Director of ICT, 2011- 2014, and Director, Public Procurement Research Centre (PPRC), 2016 -2018. She has three years of industrial experience at Shell Petroleum Dev Co., Port Harcourt on skill pool management and quality assurance for IT projects (2006 – 2009). Gloria has excellent administrative and soft skills and has participated in various degree programmes development.
In the EEE department, she is the leader of Microelectronics and Solar energy research projects. She has mentored successfully three start-up companies Green Village Electricity Projects Ltd– a renewable energy company; Skytrain Electronics Ltd- a microelectronics applications company, and Cyberflux- a smart energy solutions company.
Engr. Prof. Chukwudebe is a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, a fellow of the Nigerian Computer Society, and has also served as a member of the Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) 1996-1998. She is an active member of the Association of Professional Women Engineering of Nigeria (APWEN). From 2011-2015, she served as Nigeria Section Chair, Institute of Electric/Electrical Engineers Inc. (IEEE). Presently, she is Chair, IEEE Africa Area and Pro-tem Chair for the newly formed IEEE Africa Council.
