The “Joining eduID and eduroam workshop” concluded on 28 February 2019. The workshop finished with an eduroam deployathon Covenant University becoming the first institution in Nigeria to have eduroam enabled on its campus wi-fi network.
Owen Iyoha, General Manager of Eko-Konnect said he was exhilarated at this development and was looking forward to all participating institutions deploying eduroam over the next few months and joining the eduID Nigeria federation for research and education.
The training facilitation took place courtesy of the Africa Training Initiative, ATI with Chris Rohrer of Ubuntunet Alliance and Omo Oaiya of WACREN leading the training in what was a highly interactive and empowering workshop for all the network and system administrators participating. In total, 10 higher education institutions participated in the workshop and are expected to be the pioneering institutions within the eduID Nigeria federation.
A policy and practice workshop for ICT Directors and Senior Management will take place shortly to bring awareness to institutions about federated identity and design appropriate policies and documentation governing the use of eduroam and eduID.
