1. Researcher Job Summary
Eko-Konnect Research and Education Initiative is seeking a qualified, self-sufficient, and thorough researcher for immediate employment. The successful candidate will coordinate and facilitate the research activities of Eko-Konnect in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) areas as well as research into the use of library and repository tools to promote information management and open science to enhance the development of National and Regional Research and Education Networks.
You would be tasked with the research-related activities including developing questionnaires, launching them, collecting data, analysis, producing reports and preparation of papers and presentations of research outputs at local and international conferences.
During your employment period you will be required to assist the General Manager (GM) to establish a research unit within Eko-Konnect, defining and implementing the necessary processes and procedures required to run an effective research unit.
The research activities will be informed by the needs of the National Research and Education Network (NREN) community and the communities of practice that exist within the community e.g. librarians, scientists, medical practitioners, staff and students of various academic disciplines etc. The researcher will be required to ascertain the needs of these different stakeholder communities through the preparation of survey instruments.
You will report directly to the GM but will also work with other researchers internationally in specific research projects as part of an international research team aimed at improving information management for African NRENs.

2. Researcher Job Duties and Responsibilities
a. Work in accordance to project brief and deliver frequent project updates
b. Develop and direct given research assignments
c. Create a plan of action and set project goals and manage them to completion
d. Formulate effective and efficient research processes
e. Design surveys, questionnaires, polls etc. specific to research requirements
f. Test research methodologies to confirm intended purpose of evaluation
g. Utilize various professional sources to find and extract pertinent information
h. Organize and maintain research databases
i. Frequently self-audit work and check data for errors and inconsistencies
j. Document, report, and present research findings to management and at conferences
k. Oversee and manage research projects established by Eko-Konnect
3. Researcher Requirements and Qualifications
The successful candidate shall be a faculty member in a STEM-related discipline in a Nigerian university with a minimum of a Master's degree although a PhD is desired.
4. Employment Terms
4.1 The salary is highly competitive and negotiable. The employment period shall start on or around 1st September 2018.
Days of Work
We are flexible with working days and expect that the researcher can work remotely at times, however, the researcher will be expected to work in the Eko-Konnect Secretariat 3 days a week.
5. Hours of Work
5.1 The researcher shall normally be required to work 7.5 hours between 8am and 6pm on working days i.e. Monday to Friday. Starting time is between 8am and 9am and closing time between 5pm and 6pm.
5.1 The researcher is entitled to a 1-hour lunch break between 12 noon and 2pm.
6. Expenses & Accommodation Allowance
6.1 In the event that a researcher has to travel more than 30km to attend work at the Eko-Konnect Secretariat, additional financial support will be provided for the necessary transport or accommodation costs incurred.
6.2 Where the researcher incurs expenses in the performance of his/her duties such as local travel expenses, Eko-Konnect will reimburse the researcher with the costs incurred after the presentation of appropriate receipts or evidence of expenses.
